Feelin' It...

Today, I'm feeling musical.

I'm sure most people find music is able to make them feel better - and I'm no exception.

Miss 3 is going through a very clingy stage at the moment, and it makes day care drop off time painful.

You'd think I was leaving her on the side of the road and moving to Bolivia without giving her a forwarding address.

I know she can feel things changing, and she's not too sure what to think of it all. Fair enough - I'm her Mum and some days I wake up not knowing what to think of everything that's going on! But we have to keep plodding along for a little bit longer.

Everything will be okay.  It's my mantra at the moment.

So I've been spending some time today listening to music that makes me feel happy, and I thought I'd share a few of my selections with you.

You know, because I can.

So first up is a bit of Powderfinger with Lost and Running...



It more or less describes how I'm feeling at the moment - but makes me want to smile and dance.

Then we're moving on with some of The Strokes, with You Only Live Once...



I think I mostly just love the guitar rifts in this song...

And of course, Empire of the Sun. Miss 3 and I dance to this regularly...



I don't understand the video clip. Never have and most likely never will. I always consider them to be the musical version of 'The Matrix'. I didn't understand those movies either, despite the amount of time The Man dedicated to trying desperately to explain it all to me.

And lastly, one from my youth that Miss 3 loves to listen to...let's hear it Barnes-y!

Open Mic Night...

I am not a public speaker.

It's one of those fears that I've not conquered and have no plans to do so. It's so bad, I think my worst nightmare would be waking up to find I got a job as a public speaking clown. I would scare the shit out of myself.

In high-school I would use every excuse in the book to avoid having to do presentations. I couldn't even face standing up in front of the family and friends at our wedding to say thank you - I went to all 110 individually.

Gratefully, this open mic is fictional and in Eden's head. Although I still don't want to be standing up in there, in front of all her brain cells. So hopefully she'll let me hide amongst the crowd while she plays this for them...

I love this song - it was the first song I heard shortly after Miss 3 was born, which was ironic considering I had wanted it playing in the room while I birthed her, but I forgot the CD at home. I always look at it as a sign that both Nanna's knew she had arrived.
Bono wrote this song after he forgot his wife's birthday while they were recording 'The Joshua Tree' - and because this post is late and it's a belated 'Happy Birthday' to Eden, it seemed only appropriate.

Please stop singing...you are enlarging the hole in the ozone layer

So I was reading Tina Gray {dot} Me this morning and she was discussing music. Specifically which song you're loving right now.

And that led me to thinking about all the songs I want to stop. And all the people guilty of singing such dribble.

For me, the main offenders at the moment are Delta Goodrem and Brain McFadden. For. The. Love. Of. All. That. Is. Holy. Please. Shut. UP!!

It's cute that they're all in love and can share abusive Twitter posts to his ex-wife about her being a mole or something. But whomever told them that it would be an awesome idea to do a duet is obviously deaf. Profoundly.

And no, I wasn't a fan of the first one they did either.

To quote my comment at Tina Gray, their newest efforts sound like a recently castrated bull and a rabid squirrel screaming into a microphone. And I just loooooove the part where Delta belts out a seamless stream of ooh's and ahh's at one point simply to demonstrate her vocal range. Please, don't miss the sarcasm in that last sentence.

But my bleeding inner ear aside, it truly is a crime against humanity to allow this to continue. Because the more they open their mouths, the more CO2 is being put into the atmosphere and the bigger the hole in the ozone layer gets.

I know I say all of this at the risk of being hunted down by Brian and Delta fans. All I ask is that the angry mob colour co-ordinate the stake I'll be burnt at with the potato sack I'll be made to wear (we all know that people burnt at the stake aren't allowed to wear their own clothing, they all get to wear scratchy, potato sack type rags. Watch the movies people, you'll see I'm right).

And can I have some rope for a belt? I'd like to accentuate my waist while I'm at it.
