February Photo A Day Challenge: Day 23...

Day 23

|My Shoes|

Are never on my feet and live under my desk. It's pretty standard in our office - most people wander around in bare feet unless we have a meeting and then we put them on...but only because we have to.

Yep - we're all class, baby.

It makes me laugh how blasé I am about shoes now. When I lived in Adelaide I was a shoe whore, and I had over 100 pairs all in their original boxes with tissue paper. I even had a photo on the outside of each box so I could see which ones were which at a glance.

These days I have 2 'vital' pairs. My Havaiana thongs and the shoes in the picture which I wear to work. If I don't wear my thongs.

A part of me does miss those days when I would teeter around in ridiculously high shoes that would kill my feet - beauty was pain and all that mattered was that I looked good. BandAid made a LOT of money out of me back then.

But I think, overall, I'm much happier keeping things casual. It's more my style.

Polly Dolly: Packin' Purple

Purple - I'm not always a big fan, but I saw this dress and I loved it. It's not too bright, and it's not too sickly either.

I'm always drawn to darker shades of colour...it probably has something to do with the fact that I was always told the darker the colour, the more flattering.

I thought the belt helped break up the block of colour, even though I know colour blocking is so 'in' right now. And I liked the shoes because they have a red/purple colouring about them and they go well without being too matchy-matchy.

Either way, this is just a casual outfit to meet with friends over coffee, go to the library, grab some groceries and then pick up the kids from school.

A simple pony tail works well - and it doesn't matter if you haven't washed your hair, it usually gives you better volume and styling ability. And we all know that being a Mum means you don't get to wach your hair every day as you did pre-child...well, not without military style advanced planning and execution.

I would wear this without thinking twice - it hides all manner of sins and can be put together in a flash while trying to get your family out the door!

Polly Dolly: Stroller Style

This is how I wish I looked when I was tootling round with my stroller. The truth was far from this - in fact, after the Toddler was born I don't know that I would have had the brain power available to even consider perfume!

That said, once the shock wore off and I managed to get 2 hours of sleep together, I was able to leave the house and not look like a crazed bag lady who'd stolen a baby. I didn't look this awesome, but I didn't look any different to the 50 other Mum's I encountered wandering aimlessly through shops.

Sure, I'd forgotten what it was I needed from the shop, and that led to plenty of impulse buying in the hopes that, when I did get home, one of the items would be what I was actually supposed to get.

It rarely worked out.

Who knows, next time around I might manage a look close to this? Or, at the very least, remember what it is I'm looking for.

Polly Dolly: L'Artiste

L’Artiste was a weekly illustrated review published in Paris from 1831 to 1904, supplying "the richest single source of contemporary commentary on artists, exhibitions and trends from the Romantic era to the end of the nineteenth century."

Polly has revived L'Artiste and is taking it into the new century. She's classy, smart and is a regular figure around the Musée d'Orsay and Centre Pompidou - National Modern Art Museum.

She dabbles in photography and painting, but her biggest passion is bringing art to the public eye. Art appreciation is not an elitiste priveledge - art should be seen by the whole world and celebrated as a wonderous journey through our past and into our future.

Joy to the World...

No - our claim hasn't been finalised. That won't happen until the next ice age, and I'm sure I'll make my peace with that. Probably the day before I die.

Anyway, considering my 'woe is me' post yesterday, I'm feeling good today (I feel good - nah nah nah nah nah nah nah - I knew that I would, now - nah nah nah nah nah nah nah - I feeeeeeeeeel good...)

Maybe it's because I slept well, maybe it's because I'm having a good hair day...and maybe it's because I'm hopping on a flight to Alice Springs today and I'm escaping the cesspool of destruction created by my family while I was away last week.

Whatever the reason, for the first time this morning the NT News didn't look like reading it would waste 5 minutes of precious life. In fact - the front cover made my heart skip a beat and I almost screamed.

It's not often the NT News deems a story worthy to replace the required Crocodile on the front page.

I feel the Myer announcement could have taken a full page, but obviously someone being attacked with an iced coffee is right up there, too.

It reaffirms my committment to only drinking Farmer's Union.

So Myer, on behalf of all the people in Darwin who have moved here from other capital cities, got off the plane and thought 'where the hell am I?' or, in my case 'What do you mean they don't have department stores!!?' I would like to say THANK YOU.

You will drag this city kicking and screaming into the new millennium - and I look forward to it.

Polly Dolly: Pretty Prairie

Prairie - it's not a style I've ever really considered previously. But here I am giving it a go anyway!

I tried not to channel too much from 'Little House on the Prairie' because we all know that sky high necklines and ground dragging hemlines are meant to be left in the past.

So this is my modern take on 'prairie wear' - hopefully it wouldn't get me kicked off the wagon train!
